Climate in Sassello month by month

Sassello is a mountain village at 388 metres, about twenty kilometres as the crow flies from Savona. There are no official averages for Sassello on the same scale. Locally measured averages are colder in winter: about 1.4 °C in January and about 20.1 °C in July. If you want the weather by the sea, see the weather in Savona or the one in Varazze.

Monthly averages for Savona (air temperatures 1991–2012). Source: climieviaggi.it. For Sassello, at about 388 m above sea level, the temperatures are an estimate: they are the Savona figures, on the coast about 19 km away, with 0.6 °C less for every 100 m of altitude; the rainy days are those of Savona. Treat them as a guide: in the valleys nights are usually cooler and the gap between day and night wider.

Snow, fog and cold

Inland, winter is cold and sometimes snowy. The lowest temperature recorded is −22.1 °C, on 6 February 2012. With snow and ice, the mountain roads to Sassello, from the coast or from Piedmont, can be difficult, so check conditions before you leave. Fog is common on damp days and cuts the view from viewpoints. For high-altitude hikes on the Beigua, pick a clear day.

In Liguria, ARPAL issues the alerts for rain and thunderstorms, with three levels: yellow, orange and red. Check the official Allerta Liguria website before you set out.

Foresta della Deiva and walks

The Foresta della Deiva is right next to the village and has about 40 km of trails. After rain the dirt sections can be muddy, so bring hiking boots. In summer the forest is cooler than the coast. In winter, with snow, you need the right equipment. We have no verified information on 2027 conditions. For other walks, see the guide to hiking in Liguria.

When to go to Sassello

The best months are spring and autumn, with clear air and coloured woods. In September there is the Amaretto Festival. In 2026 it took place on 5 and 6 September, and the 2027 dates are not confirmed. We cover it in the in-depth guide to the amaretti. Other events, as a rough guide: the Corpus Domini flower carpet, the patron saint festival on 29 August and the memorial of Chiara Luce Badano on 29 October. For details of the village, see the guide to Sassello.
