Cogoleto’s climate month by month

Cogoleto is on the Riviera di Ponente, between Arenzano and Varazze, with the hills of the Beigua Park behind it. The table uses the averages for Savona, about 20 km away: they are a good guide for the coast, but the hills are cooler and wetter. Winters are mild and summers hot, with rain spread between autumn and spring and little rain in summer.

Sea, seafront and the Beigua

The beaches of Cogoleto are about 3 km of gravel and pebbles, with beach clubs and free stretches: the dedicated guide describes them and explains what to know about the clean-up of the former Stoppani plant. Cogoleto does not have a Blue Flag for 2026: before swimming, check the ARPAL bathing-water bulletin and, when the sea is rough, stay out of the water. The Fabrizio De André seafront, a cycle and walking path to Arenzano and towards Varazze, is flat and paved, but storm waves can flood or close it: if the swell is high, choose another day. The Beigua trails that start from Sciarborasca climb above a thousand metres: fog is frequent and the ground is slippery when wet, so after rain put the hike off.

In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before setting off on hikes or boat trips.

When to go to Cogoleto

For the sea go from June to September, when the water averages above 21 °C. For the cycle path, the old town and the Villa Beuca botanical garden choose spring or autumn; for the Beigua avoid the wettest months, October and November. On 10 August, the day of San Lorenzo, the patron saint’s festival ends with a procession and, weather permitting, fireworks over the sea. There is little indoors for a rainy day: take the train to Genoa or Savona.
