The Lungomare degli Artisti in Albissola Marina is about a kilometre long, with a ceramic and stoneware mosaic on the pavement: when the sea is very rough it may be closed or dirty, and on those days it is better to walk the inner streets. Rain is no problem for the workshops, museums and ceramics itinerary: the MuDA, the Trucco Museum and Villa Faraggiana can be visited indoors. The beaches of Albissola have the 2026 Blue Flag in both towns, but the Presepe degli Abissi, about 200 m offshore, can only be reached when the sea allows it. The walk between Pozzo Garitta and the Montale promenade is pleasant in the shoulder seasons too, while the climb to Casa Museo Jorn, up a steep stairway, is best put off after rain.
In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before setting off on hikes or boat trips.
For the sea go from June to September. For ceramics and walks, April, May and October are ideal, with fewer people. June brings the Festival della Maiolica; on 15 August the Madonna del Mare procession carries a boat along the coast; on 8 September Albissola Marina celebrates the Nativity of Mary; on 31 October “Passaggio di Streghe” takes over the old town. For a rainy day, Savona and Celle Ligure are only a few minutes away by train.
