Choosing where to stay in Alassio is easy once you know what you want. For a beach holiday without a car, stay in the centre, between the Budello lane and the seafront promenade: the beach and the railway station are a short walk away. Families staying a week or more usually do better with an apartment. If you want quiet and a view, look at the hills behind town, but you will need a car there. Alassio has one of the largest choices of accommodation on the western Riviera, yet the best sea-view rooms for July and August go early.
- First visit: the centre and the Budello, everything on foot, beach on your doorstep
- With children: a beachfront hotel or an apartment near the sea; fine sand and shallow water
- Quieter stay: the stretch towards Albenga or the hills behind town
- Car: not essential; the A10 motorway has no Alassio exit, use Albenga or Andora
- When to book: months ahead for July and August; more choice in spring and September

Alassio’s areas at a glance

Alassio is squeezed between the sea and the hills, and most of town life runs along two streets parallel to the beach: the seafront promenade and the Budello, the old town’s narrow lane lined with shops, bars and ice-cream parlours. It has two main entrances, from Borgo Coscia on the Laigueglia side and from piazza Partigiani on the Albenga side. The further you move from this axis, the quieter your holiday.
- Centre, Budello and the Muretto: the most convenient area. Step out of the lane and you are on the sand; the Muretto, restaurants and the station are all walkable. Downside: summer evenings are lively and noise carries into rooms on the lanes.
- Seafront promenade: home to the hotels with sea-view rooms and a beach club right in front. These are the most requested places and the first to fill up.
- Towards Albenga: past the Barusso area beach clubs thin out and the beach is calmer. A good pick for families who want space while staying on the flat and within walking distance of the centre.
- Towards Borgo Coscia and the harbour: you pass under the Torrione and reach the longest stretches of free beach; Laigueglia is a walk away along the sea.
- The hills: towards the hamlets behind town, such as Moglio and Solva, you find villas, apartments with terraces and views over the bay. Roads are steep: without a car it is awkward, and you will drive back from dinner in the centre.
Hotel or apartment?

Alassio has been a resort since the 19th century, when the railway brought the first English visitors, and the choice is wide: hotels on the seafront, family-run hotels in the streets behind, holiday apartments and a few B&Bs.
- Hotel: easiest for short stays, or if you want a deal with a beach club. Always ask whether parking is included or must be booked separately.
- Apartment: better value for families and stays of one or two weeks. In high season there may be a minimum stay, so check the conditions before booking.
- B&B: only a few, handy for an off-season weekend.

The beach and beach clubs

The beach is why people come to Alassio: more than three kilometres of fine quartz sand, with a seabed that slopes gently, ideal for children. Most of it is taken up by beach clubs (over a hundred), with only a few free stretches. In July and August you need to book your sunbed and umbrella, so a hotel with a beach-club deal is a real advantage.
Travelling with a dog? Dogs are banned from public beaches from 1 May to 30 September, but some beach clubs have dedicated areas. Filter for pet-friendly places and check before you go. Areas, free beaches and tips for kids are in our guide to Alassio’s beaches.
Train, car and parking
- By train: Alassio is on the Genoa–Ventimiglia line. Regional trains from Genova Brignole take about 1 h 40 – 1 h 55; from Milano Centrale it is about three and a half hours, with some direct trains. If you stay in the centre you won’t need a car.
- By car: A10 motorway, exit Albenga coming from Genoa or exit Andora coming from France, then the Via Aurelia coast road. There is no “Alassio” exit.
- Parking: spaces in the centre are few. The covered car park in piazza Partigiani has about 108 spaces, is open 24 hours and has a 2.10 m height limit (watch out with vans and campers). Other car parks: Stazione and Don Bosco. If you drive, choose a place with parking.
- Airports: Genoa is about 95 km away (around an hour by car), Nice about 120 km.
When to book
July and August are the busiest and most expensive months: book months ahead, especially for sea-view rooms and family apartments. June and September are less crowded, with the sea still warm and more choice. Spring is lovely for walks and gardens: wisteria blooms at the Giardini di Villa della Pergola, followed by agapanthus in early summer.
Staying nearby

If Alassio is full or you want to spend less, look at the neighbouring towns, linked by train, bus and seaside walks.
- Laigueglia: a fishing village listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, with a sandy Blue Flag 2026 beach. Alassio is about 45 minutes away on foot along the sea. Smaller and quieter in the evening.
- Albenga: a real town, with a medieval centre of towers and Gallinara Island offshore. A few minutes by train or about 15 minutes by bus from Alassio, or on foot along the Roman Via Iulia Augusta.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best area to stay in Alassio?
The centre, between the Budello and the promenade: beach, restaurants and station are all on foot. For a quieter stay pick the Albenga side; for views and silence the hills, but with a car.
Do I need a car in Alassio?
Not if you stay in the centre: Alassio is on the Genoa–Ventimiglia railway and the beach is walkable. You only need a car for a place in the hills. Parking in the centre is scarce, so look for accommodation with parking.

For a few days a hotel is easier, especially one with a beach-club deal. For families and stays of one or two weeks an apartment is usually better value.
