Sanremo’s beaches run the full length of the town, from Pian di Poma in the west to Bussana in the east, and almost everywhere they are linked by the cycle and pedestrian path built on the old railway line. They are mostly shingle and pebbles, with a few stretches of coarse sand. In 2026 Sanremo was awarded the Blue Flag for five stretches of coast and for the Portosole marina. This guide describes them from west to east, with the Blue Flag stretches, the dog-friendly beaches and tips for choosing.

The 2026 Blue Flag beaches

The FEE Blue Flag rewards water quality, facilities and environmental management. In 2026, 35 municipalities in Liguria received it, eight of them in the province of Imperia. In Sanremo the award covers these five stretches.

Statue and flowerbeds on the Imperatrice promenade in Sanremo

Imperatrice

This is the town-centre beach, below the Passeggiata Imperatrice and a few steps from the Casino and the Russian Church. It is the most convenient choice if you are staying in the centre and want to mix the sea with sightseeing.

Tiro a Volo

Beach clubs

The Tiro a Volo stretch is right in the centre, in the Porto Vecchio area, with historic beach clubs a short walk from the shops and the Forte di Santa Tecla.

Tre Ponti beach in Sanremo

Tre Ponti

PebblesBeach clubs

The long pebble beach of Tre Ponti, to the east, follows the cycle path and is a favourite with locals: wider and quieter than the beaches in the centre, with beach clubs and free stretches.

Baia Capo Pino

To the east, towards Bussana and Taggia, Baia Capo Pino is a small cove sheltered by the headland, with a fine gravel seabed and very clear water: ideal if you are looking for a quiet day.

Bussana beach with umbrellas

Bussana

Sanremo’s easternmost beach is also the furthest from the centre: ideal if you want fewer crowds. From here it is a few minutes’ drive up to the artists’ village of Bussana Vecchia.

The other beaches from west to east

Besides the Blue Flag stretches, the coastline is lined with a long series of beach clubs alternating with free beaches.

Pian di Poma

To the west, towards Ospedaletti, Pian di Poma is the quietest part of the town’s coastline. At Pian di Poma levante there is a stretch where you can bring dogs. This is also where you will find the new Green Park campervan area, opened in July 2026.

Between the promenade and the Porto Vecchio

From the centre to the harbour the beaches are narrow and crowded but extremely convenient: you can go down to the sea between visits, with bars and restaurants close at hand.

Between Portosole and Tre Ponti

Past the marina the coastline widens and the cycle path runs right above the beach. It is the ideal stretch for a day of swimming and cycling.

Dog-friendly beaches in Sanremo

At Pian di Poma levante dogs of all sizes are allowed on the beach, with showers and shaded areas. Some beach clubs accept dogs, for example Bagni Matuzia and Tartaruga. The rules change from one season to the next: before you go, check the rules posted at the entrance or ask the beach club.

Beaches for children and activities at sea

With children. The beach clubs in the centre and to the east have facilities, sun umbrellas and often play areas; the cycle path behind them means you can arrive by bike or on foot without crossing busy roads.

By boat. Boat trips leave from Portosole along the coast towards the Bay of Bussana and Tre Ponti, with stops for swimming and snorkelling. Offshore lies the Pelagos Sanctuary, the protected area for whales and dolphins in the Ligurian Sea.
