Parking in Sanremo takes a little planning: the centre, with corso Matteotti and the area around the Ariston, is closed off by electronic gates, blue-line parking is charged six days a week and since June 2026 visitors pay a higher rate than residents. This guide covers the most convenient car parks, the ZTL, charging hours, the campervan area and the car-free alternatives.

Sanremo's ZTL

Since 2023 Sanremo’s pedestrian centre has been controlled by electronic gates with cameras. The zones are corso Matteotti, piazza Sardi, piazza Bresca, piazza San Siro, via Corradi and via De Benedetti: only emergency vehicles and vehicles with a municipal permit may enter. Anyone driving through without authorisation receives a fine at home, even in a hire car or a foreign-registered vehicle.

If your hotel is in the pedestrian zone, ask before you arrive how to reach it with your luggage and whether it can register your number plate. La Pigna, the old town, is made up of alleys and stairways and is largely inaccessible by car.

Blue-line parking: hours and rates

Blue-line parking is charged Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 8pm; on Sundays and outside these hours it is free. Since 8 June 2026 Sanremo has applied differentiated rates: non-residents pay €2.10 an hour, while residents and workers registered on the council’s portal pay €1.80. The same rates apply in public multi-storey car parks. You pay at the meter, entering your number plate, or with apps such as EasyPark and Telepass. Always check the signs, as hours and rates can change.

The main car parks

Palafiori

The covered Palafiori car park, between piazza Colombo and corso Garibaldi, is a minute’s walk from the Ariston Theatre and corso Matteotti. The first half hour is free, after which you pay by the hour. The maximum height is 1.90 metres and LPG vehicles are not allowed.

Volta car park

On via Volta, this is an automated car park open 24 hours a day, convenient for the centre. The maximum height is 1.85 metres.

Station car park

The railway station car park, on corso Cavallotti, has the first half hour free and a maximum height of 2.10 metres. It is handy if you arrive by train or want to leave the car for a few hours and head towards Villa Nobel and Villa Ormond.

Piazza Cesare Battisti

The paid car park at the former station is open 24 hours a day, by the sea and next to the cycle path: perfect if you want to pick up a bike or go to the beach.

Lungomare Italo Calvino and piazzale Dapporto

Seafront blue-line parking, near the Casino and the Passeggiata Imperatrice. During some events this parking is not available.

Torre Saracena and market area

An open-air paid car park near piazza Eroi Sanremesi. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the market days, it cannot be used until around 3pm, and the same applies during fairs.

Portosole

Around the marina there are a few hundred open-air spaces, about five minutes’ walk from the centre. In high season they fill up quickly; check on site whether parking is paid.

Parking during the Festival and major events

During the Sanremo Festival, the Milan–Sanremo, the Corso Fiorito and the Rallye, many streets in the centre are closed and some car parks, such as the seafront, are not available. On those days it is best to leave the car on the outskirts or arrive by train. Information for Festival week is in the guide to the Sanremo Music Festival.

Campervans in Sanremo

On 27 July 2026 the Green Park campervan area opened at Pian di Poma, on corso Marconi, on the western side of town, about two kilometres from the centre towards Ventimiglia. It has 96 pitches over about ten thousand square metres, with a public park, play area, dog area, restaurant, EV charging points, laundry and campervan service point. It costs from €39 to €52 per 24 hours depending on the season, and the maximum stay is 36 hours. Older information describing Pian di Poma as a free area is no longer valid.

Getting there and getting around without a car

Sanremo station is underground: from the entrance hall on corso Cavallotti to the platforms there is a corridor of about 700 metres with moving walkways, so allow about ten extra minutes. From Ventimiglia it takes 12–23 minutes, from Genoa about two hours. In town, Riviera Trasporti buses link the centre with Bussana, Ospedaletti and the hinterland; the old trolleybus was withdrawn in 2024. To get around along the sea, the best option is the cycle and pedestrian path, with bike hire along the way.
