Castelbianco’s climate month by month

Castelbianco is a hill municipality in the Val Pennavaire, in the hinterland of Albenga: Colletta is at about 300 m. There are no official averages for the municipality: the table starts from those of Savona, about 40 km away as the crow flies, and subtracts about 2 °C for altitude, so it is an estimate, and there is no sea column. The rainy days are those of Savona. Nights are usually cooler than on the coast and in summer the heat is less intense. If you want the weather at the sea, look at the Savona weather or the beach at Ceriale.

Monthly averages for Savona (air temperatures 1991–2012). Source: climieviaggi.it. For Castelbianco, at about 300 m above sea level, the temperatures are an estimate: they are the Savona figures, on the coast about 40 km away, with 0.6 °C less for every 100 m of altitude; the rainy days are those of Savona. Treat them as a guide: in the valleys nights are usually cooler and the gap between day and night wider.

Trails and after the rain

The trails linking the hamlets are old stone mule tracks: after rain they become slippery and, among woods and olive groves, muddy. The red route from Colletta (about 7.5 km, medium difficulty) goes down to the bridges over the Pennavaire stream: with the stream swollen keep away from the bank and postpone the loop to a few dry days. The steep approach to the crags is also worse when wet. Bring shoes with a good sole and water; in summer start early. For the stages see the guide to Castelbianco.

If it rains in Castelbianco

On rainy days you can walk carefully through the lanes of Colletta and look closely at the stone houses, coloured doors and bridges; the parish church of Veravo, the sanctuary of the Nunziata at Vesallo and the chapels are seen from outside, because hours are not published. In Colletta there are a restaurant and a bar, open according to the season ⚠️. If you want a change of plan, Zuccarello has arcades, which give shelter, and Albenga an old town you can walk even under a grey sky.

When to go to Castelbianco

The best months are April–June and September–October, with clear air and passable trails. In summer temperatures are milder than at the sea but the sun is strong on exposed trails; in winter the village is quiet and the days are short. In early June the Cherry Festival is usually held (2026 dates not confirmed ⚠️). Weather alerts for rain and storms are issued by ARPAL: check the official Allerta Liguria website before setting out in the valley or onto a trail.
