Bergeggi is all about the sea, but its beaches are small: sand and pebbles, rocky coves, and the island of the Marine Protected Area right in front. Here are the stretches worth knowing, what is free and what is not, the rules that really apply in the water, and how to get there without a station.

Bergeggi's beaches

The coast is short: you move between beaches in a few minutes by car, and the best views are the ones facing the island. Descriptions come from specialist guides and the official rules of the marine park. Always check signs and the bathing ordinance before you go, because access changes.

Lido delle Sirene

SandPebblesBeach clubsFamily friendly

The easiest beach: sand and pebbles, a gently sloping seabed, beach clubs with services and a view of the island. That is why families like it. One warning: in September 2023 a local newspaper reported that a stretch near Spotorno was still off limits because of cliff safety. We have no official confirmation of its 2026 status, so ask the municipality before you set off.

Punta Predani

PebblesAccess on foot

A small pebble cove with clear water, reached on foot along a path of medium difficulty. It is quiet, but access is not straightforward: in 2023 a sea-side staircase was repaired and then damaged by a stream flood, while the access from the Aurelia road was closed for safety. When it is open, it is a good snorkelling spot, facing zone B of the park. Check first.

Il Faro beach and Torre del Mare

PebblesBeach clubs

Near Torre del Mare, the seaside district that grew as a holiday resort in the 1950s-70s, you find pebbles and a rocky seabed, good for snorkelling. The Il Faro beach is also one of the two Blue Flag stretches in 2026. Torre del Mare also has a paid beach club on the Aurelia road.

The coves towards Capo Noli

Beyond the easy beaches there are rocky coves inside the Marine Protected Area. You reach them by sea or on demanding trails, with no services. They suit confident swimmers with the right gear, not improvised trips. For beaches just to the west, see Noli; to the east, Spotorno.

Marine Protected Area: what you can do

Bergeggi Island in the protected marine area

The Isola di Bergeggi Marine Protected Area was established in 2007 and is run by the municipality; the regional nature reserve dates from 1985. The sea in front of the coast is split into three zones with different rules.

  • Zone A: off the south coast of the island, full reserve. Swimming is banned; only authorised guided dives.
  • Zone B: the sea around the island and in front of Punta Predani. Swimming, sailing and rowing allowed; motor limited to 5 knots, no jet skis.
  • Zone C: the rest of the area. Motor limited to 10 knots; anchoring only where permitted.
  • Everywhere in the park: jet skis, water skiing, spearfishing, collecting organisms and open fires are banned.

Snorkelling counts as swimming: throughout the park you must be able to swim and use a diver’s marker buoy. You cannot land on the island; you view it from the sea. Details are in Isola di Bergeggi. The rules are on the Marine Protected Area website.

Kayak, SUP and the Blue Trail

Clear sea and rocks in Bergeggi

The Blue Trail (Sentiero Blu) is a 2.5 km route at sea marked by 27 buoys, reserved for swimming, snorkelling, kayaks and SUP: motorboats are not allowed. It is open from May to the end of September. If you have no gear, rent locally. Entry to the Marine Cave, by the Aurelia road, is authorised and limited by the park and is done in calm seas.

Free beaches or beach clubs?

Both exist in Bergeggi. Lido delle Sirene and Torre del Mare have beach clubs with services; free access points are smaller and less equipped. We have no official list of free stretches and we give no prices: ask the municipality. In July and August arrive early, because the beaches are small and car parks fill up.

Practical tips

Train. Bergeggi has no station: get off at Savona or Spotorno-Noli on the Genoa-Ventimiglia line. From Savona a TPL Linea bus runs to Bergeggi and Torre del Mare; with Trenitalia’s combined “Borghi Marinari” ticket, choose Bergeggi or Torre del Mare as your destination. Timetables are on the TPL Linea site.

Car. A10, exit Spotorno, then the Aurelia towards Savona for a few kilometres; or exit Savona-Vado and head west.

Parking. Along the Aurelia it is paid and run by SAT. It fills early on summer weekends: take the bus if you can.

Trails. A circular botanical trail leaves from the centre, about two hours. For a longer walk, the Pilgrim’s Trail leads to Noli.

Weather and water. Check the Bergeggi weather and ARPAL’s bathing water quality.
