Diano Marina has one of the longest beaches on the Riviera dei Fiori: about 3.5 km of sandy shore in front of the town centre and the seafront promenade, from the marina to the rocks of Capo Berta. This is not a coast of hidden coves. It is one long continuous strip with beach clubs, free stretches and a seabed that deepens slowly, which suits families. Here is how it is laid out, where the free beaches are, what to know about the 2026 Blue Flag, and how to get there.

What the beach at Diano Marina is like

The shore follows the whole bay, between the marina and Capo Berta, the headland that closes the bay to the west. A seafront promenade runs along the entire beach, so you can walk from one stretch to another without leaving it. Behind it you will find gardens with palm trees, cafés and the town’s shops.

The municipality describes the shore as sandy. Other sources, such as booking guides, mention sand with small pebbles in places. The two descriptions do not match, and the bottom can change from one beach club to the next and after storms. Bring water shoes if you want to swim near Capo Berta, where the beach gives way to rocks.

Free beaches, beach clubs and Blue Flag

The municipality lists six types of beach: free, equipped free, beach club (stabilimento), sports use, hotel beach and pet beach. In practice you will see beach-club concessions, hotel beaches, a few sports areas and stretches open to everyone alternating along the shore. One booking guide names an equipped free area called “ex Sics”, with showers and toilets. That name does not appear on the municipality’s site, so ask on the spot.

The municipality’s website has a PDF map of free beaches and pet beaches. Download it before you go, because zones can change from season to season.

Diano Marina is on the official 2026 Blue Flag list of the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). The awarded stretch is called “Litorale”, and the municipality says it is the seventh year in a row. The list does not say which exact metres of the shore are included, so look for the signs on the beach. For a wider choice, see the sandy beaches of Liguria.

With children: seabed and facilities

Beach clubs on the beach at Diano Marina

The seabed is shallow and slopes gently, which is why Diano Marina works well for small children. The municipality describes it as suitable for families, and the sand does the rest. In front of the beach there are beach clubs with showers and facilities, and cafés, ice-cream shops and stores are a few steps away. The promenade has room for strollers and bikes.

Do not swim in rough seas, with a red flag or after heavy storms: check the weather in Diano Marina before you go. For water quality, consult the data of ARPAL Liguria, the regional agency, which samples bathing points from April to September. We did not find the 2026 classification of Diano Marina’s points in an official source, so we do not state it.

Sport and days by the sea

Seaside cycle and footpath in Diano Marina

On the water people do beach volleyball, canoeing, windsurfing, surfing and kitesurfing, and the municipality has sports beaches. If you prefer to move without swimming, use the cycle and pedestrian path: since 20 June 2026 the 900 m “IM-compiuta” section above the cliff between Imperia and Diano Marina has been open, completing a route of nearly 48 km from Ospedaletti to Andora. For a change of scene, head to Cervo, which gives its name to the cape at the other end of the bay, or to San Bartolomeo al Mare.

To the west you will find Imperia and its beaches; to the east, past Andora, there is Laigueglia. The Corpus Domini flower carpet is also a good reason to pick the right weekend in June.

Practical tips

Getting there. By car, leave the A10 at San Bartolomeo al Mare and continue along the Aurelia road. Diano station (corso Luigia Saguato) opened on 11 December 2016 and is outside the centre, between Diano San Pietro and Diano Castello. A Riviera Trasporti shuttle and taxis connect it to the seafront. Regional trains to Ventimiglia take about 40–45 minutes.

Parking. The municipality lists free car parks on via Gaggero, at the station forecourt, on piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII, via Villebone, via Sottana alla Foce and via Lucus Bormani. Piazza J. Virgilio, piazza Maglione and largo Torino are paid. Rates and blue-line hours are not confirmed: check the signs.

Dogs. The municipality marks pet beaches on its PDF map, but we did not find in an official source where they are or the 2026 rules. Check the map and ask the tourist office (IAT). For the rest of the region, see the dog-friendly beaches in Liguria.

When to go. Beach clubs operate in the bathing season, 1 May to 30 September. In July and August arrive early if you want a spot on the free stretch.
