Parking in Bordighera is easier than in many Riviera resorts, but there are two rules you need to know: the village of Bordighera Alta is a limited traffic zone all year round, and in summer blue-line parking must be paid until 11 pm. This guide covers the main car parks, parking hours, the ZTL, permits and the alternatives to driving.

The Bordighera Alta ZTL

Since 3 January 2022 the old village of Bordighera Alta, bounded by via Circonvallazione, has been a limited traffic zone. The ZTL is in force 24 hours a day, all year round, and the entry point is monitored by a camera at the junction of via Circonvallazione and via al Capo. Bicycles, taxis, emergency vehicles, vehicles serving people with disabilities and postal services can enter freely; residents, tradespeople and businesses have a permit issued by the town council, which can also be temporary for up to six months.

If you are staying in the village, ask your accommodation before you arrive how to reach it with your luggage and where to leave the car. Anyone who enters without a permit receives the fine at home, even with a hire car.

Blue-line parking hours and rates

In Bordighera, blue-line parking must be paid from 9 am to 7 pm; in the summer period, from 15 June to 15 September, until 11 pm. The rates in force since 2020 are €0.50 for the first half hour, €1.20 for the first hour, €1.30 for the second and €1.40 from the third hour onwards. In 2023, when it introduced blue lines in Bordighera Alta, the town council confirmed the rate of €1.20 an hour: still, check the parking meter, as rates can change.

Around Bordighera Alta, blue-line parking must be paid all year round until 11 pm, even out of season.

The main car parks

Piazza Eroi della Libertà

The largest car park near the centre, handy for the seafront, the station and corso Italia. It is blue-line parking and in summer it fills up in the middle of the day.

Piazzale Raoul Zaccari

Another large pay car park a short distance from the centre. At certain times in the past the town council made it free with a parking disc: check the signs at the entrance.

Covered market (piazza Garibaldi)

The car park under the covered market, in the centre, had been pay parking since 2012. Under an ordinance of September 2026 it becomes permanently one-hour disc parking: perfect for a quick errand, not for a day at the beach.

Lungomare Argentina

Along the seafront and in the nearby streets there is blue-line parking, the most convenient for the beaches. In summer it is much easier to find a space early in the morning than in the middle of the day.

Spianata del Capo and piazza del Capo

These are the car parks right next to Bordighera Alta, blue-line all year round until 11 pm. In 2026 the town council extended the areas reserved for residents, so there are few spaces for visitors: in high season it is better to park in the centre and walk up in ten minutes.

Free parking in Bordighera

Free parking spaces are few and far from the sea: a few spots along via Romana, in the residential streets on the hillside and in the areas near the station and the Capo, often with time limits. They are easier to find out of season and on weekdays. Always check the signs: many streets have bays reserved for residents.

Parking permits

If you are staying a long time you can buy a blue-line parking permit: for non-residents it costs €60 a month or €500 a year, for residents €45 a month or €400 a year. You apply in person at the Polizia Locale, at piazza Mazzini 14.

Motorhomes in Bordighera

Bordighera has no official municipal motorhome area. Motorhome owners report a few places to stop near the harbour, but with no facilities and no guarantees; in the hamlet of Sasso there is a private site open in summer. Before you set off, check the ordinances in force, as motorhome parking is often restricted along the seafront.

Arriving and moving around without a car

Bordighera is one of the easiest places on the Riviera to enjoy without a car. The railway station is in the centre, a short walk from the sea, on the Genoa–Ventimiglia line: Sanremo is about ten minutes away by train and Ventimiglia five to ten. Riviera Trasporti buses fill in the gaps: line 2 Ventimiglia–Bordighera–Sanremo runs every 15–20 minutes on weekdays, line 10 climbs to Sasso and Seborga and urban line 11/2 serves Bordighera Alta. The centre, the seafront and the old village are easy to explore on foot.
