The climate stays mild, but evenings in the valley are cooler than by the sea. For the weather on the coast, see the Bordighera weather page.

Monthly averages for Sanremo (air temperatures 2004–2020). Source: climieviaggi.it. For Apricale, at about 273 m above sea level, the temperatures are an estimate: they are the Sanremo figures, on the coast about 15 km away, with 0.6 °C less for every 100 m of altitude; the rainy days are those of Sanremo. Treat them as a guide: in the valleys nights are usually cooler and the gap between day and night wider.

Trails and surroundings

In good weather the Apricale–Perinaldo loop is well worth doing: about 7 km, three and a half hours on foot and 550 m of ascent, starting from the car park in via IV Novembre. It passes the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, an old bridge and the ruins of a mill. In summer set off early in the morning; after heavy rain the ground can be slippery. Nearby are Dolceacqua, about 7 km away, and Pigna, further up the valley.

If it rains in Apricale

The Castello della Lucertola houses the Museum of the History of Apricale, with seven rooms of documents, statutes and archaeological finds: it is usually closed on Mondays, so check the times before you go. On piazza Vittorio Emanuele you can see the Oratory of San Bartolomeo, with a polyptych from 1544, and the parish church, whose bell tower has artist Sergio Bianco’s bicycle sticking out of it.

When to go to Apricale

The best months are spring and autumn. In August the village hosts the Teatro della Tosse’s travelling show, held every summer since 1990; in September there is the Sagra della Pansarola e Zabaione, usually on a Sunday in mid-month (13 September in 2026). In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL: check them on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before driving into the Nervia valley or setting off on a hike.
