Bocca di Magra is at the mouth of the Magra, in the municipality of Ameglia, at the far eastern end of Liguria. Sea, river and trails

The beaches of Bocca di Magra are small and a few minutes from the pedestrian waterfront; Fiumaretta, a few minutes away, has a longer stretch of sand: the beaches of Bocca di Magra are in the dedicated guide. You can head out by boat from the little harbour to see the gulf, but when the sea is rough it’s better to stay ashore. After heavy rain the trails above the village towards Montemarcello can be slippery; for Punta Corvo and Punta Bianca check the Ameglia town hall order before you go, because the access routes have suffered landslides and closures.

When to go to Bocca di Magra

For the sea, go from June to September; in 2026 Ameglia is not among the municipalities with a Blue Flag. In July and August the car parks fill up. For the monastery of Santa Croce del Corvo, Montemarcello and the walk along the river, choose spring or autumn. On 30 November the village celebrates Sant’Andrea, its patron saint. If the weather turns bad, Sarzana and Lerici are a few kilometres away.
