Sea, snorkelling and the marine protected area

Opposite the village lies Bergeggi Island, at the heart of a marine protected area. Around the island you can swim and snorkel, with a diver-down buoy compulsory; in the stretch south of the island only guided, authorised dives are allowed. Snorkelling is best with a calm sea and clear water: check the wind in the table for the coming days. In 2026 the Villaggio del Sole and Il Faro beaches have a Blue Flag.

When to go to Bergeggi

For the sea and snorkelling, go between June and September; for the trails above the village, choose spring or autumn. In November there’s the feast of San Martino. In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before setting off on hikes or boat trips.
