Climate in Cairo Montenotte month by month

Cairo Montenotte is at about 330 m, inland from Savona, on the other side of the Colle di Cadibona from the sea. There are no official averages for the town on the site: the table starts from the Savona figures, about 20 km away, and takes off about 2 °C for the altitude of about 320 m, so it is an estimate, and there is no sea-temperature column. The rainy days are those of Savona. Compared with the coast, winter days are usually colder. For the weather at the seaside, see the Savona weather page.

Monthly averages for Savona (air temperatures 1991–2012). Source: climieviaggi.it. For Cairo Montenotte, at about 320 m above sea level, the temperatures are an estimate: they are the Savona figures, on the coast about 20 km away, with 0.6 °C less for every 100 m of altitude; the rainy days are those of Savona. Treat them as a guide: in the valleys nights are usually cooler and the gap between day and night wider.

River, castle and trails after the rain

The Bormida di Spigno runs along the valley floor: after heavy rain keep away from the banks, because the level can rise quickly. The municipality also recalls the damage caused by the weather events of 26 and 27 October 2024. The climb to the castle ruins, from corso Verdese and the road of Sant’Anna, is steep and has no waymarked path: when the ground is wet it becomes slippery, so it is better to wait a few dry days. The same goes for the trails of the Adelasia reserve and for the last dirt kilometre to Cascina Miera. Above 600 m, where the highest hamlets are, there can be snow and ice in winter.

If it rains in Cairo Montenotte

On rainy days you can walk under the arcades of via dei Portici and wander along via Roma, and visit the Ferrania Film Museum in Palazzo Scarampi: the hours are not confirmed, so write first to ferraniafilmmuseum@gmail.com. For the abbey of Ferrania and the churches we have no opening hours. If the weather turns and you want the sea, or simply a change of air, Savona is about 20 km away.

When to go to Cairo Montenotte

The best months are April to June and September to October, for walks and for the Adelasia; July and August are the months of the festivals: Cairo Medievale is usually held in the first half of August (in 2025 from 6 to 10), the Sagra della Tira in July, and the 2026 dates are not confirmed. Winter is colder than on the coast. Warnings for rain and storms are issued by ARPAL: check them on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before driving up the valley or setting out on a trail.
