The seafront of San Lorenzo al Mare is short: it runs from the western promenade to the marina in the east. In a few minutes on foot you go from one beach to the next, always with the cycle path behind you. Here are the beaches from west to east, with what you need to know before you get in the water: where the two Blue Flag beaches are, how to get there without a train station in town, and what to do if you are looking for a free stretch.

San Lorenzo al Mare's beaches from west to east
Piers and breakwaters divide the shore into small bays. The cycle and walking path runs along the whole seafront: you can switch beaches on foot or by bike in a few minutes and leave the car where you parked it.
U' Nustromu and Prima Punta
Beach clubs
On the western side, along via al Mare, is the stretch awarded the 2026 Blue Flag under the name U’ Nustromu–Prima Punta. Beach clubs dominate here, with umbrellas, loungers, showers and beach bars, which you can rent by the day or by the week. It is the best-equipped area in town: good if you want an easy day, with lifeguards and a guaranteed spot in the shade.
The beach in front of the village
SandBeach clubsFamily friendly
Below the houses of the centre is the most convenient beach if you are staying in town. The bottom is sandy, with free stretches and beach clubs. The water is shallow for the first few metres, so it is the easiest choice with young children. From the beach you are in the village lanes in no time.
Baia delle Vele
SandPebblesAccess on foot
A little further east, around via alla Stazione, lies Baia delle Vele, the other 2026 Blue Flag beach. It is a small bay enclosed by breakwaters, with sand and fine shingle and a gradual entry into the water. From the seafront promenade you reach it on foot or by bike in a few minutes from the centre. Being small, it fills up fast on July and August days: arrive early in the morning.
The Marina beach
At the eastern end, towards Imperia, the promenade reaches the Marina di San Lorenzo, the marina with over 260 berths and a 2026 Blue Flag harbour. Inside the marina there is a private beach with facilities. It is the stretch furthest from the centre; from here the cycle path continues towards Imperia.
Free beaches and beach clubs
In San Lorenzo al Mare beach clubs take up much of the shore, but there are still free stretches, especially in front of the village. The boundaries change from season to season: check the signs at the beach entrance, which also tell you whether there is a lifeguard. Prices for umbrellas and loungers vary a lot between July–August and the rest of the summer: ask the beach club directly.
For dogs we have not found official rules updated for 2026. In Liguria access for animals is set every year by town council ordinances, and some beach clubs accept them. Before you go, ask the town council or the tourist office at via Aurelia 1 which stretches are open to dogs.
Blue Flag
In 2026 the Foundation for Environmental Education awarded San Lorenzo al Mare the Blue Flag for two beaches, Baia delle Vele and U’ Nustromu–Prima Punta, and for the marina. It is nothing new: in 2023 the town was already on its thirteenth Blue Flag.
Getting there, parking and when to go
San Lorenzo al Mare no longer has a station: the old one closed in 2001, when the railway was moved inland. Get off at Imperia or Taggia-Arma and continue with Riviera Trasporti buses along the Aurelia road. Alternatively, come by bike on the cycle path, which runs right behind the beaches: all the details are in the guide to the cycle path.
By car, in summer the car parks near the sea fill up early. There are paid spaces along the Aurelia and near the centre and a few free areas further away: check rates and times on the signs.
The best time for the sea is June to September; July and August are the busiest months. With the libeccio, the south-westerly wind, waves hit the coast head-on: if the red flag is flying, don’t swim. Before you set off, check the San Lorenzo al Mare weather.
Nearby beaches
For a change, the cycle path takes you west to Santo Stefano al Mare, Riva Ligure and the long beaches of Arma di Taggia, and further on to Sanremo. To the east you reach Porto Maurizio in Imperia, and from there Diano Marina and the village of Cervo.
