Cinque Terre Card 2026

The Cinque Terre Card is the pass for the Cinque Terre National Park, and in 2026 it comes in two versions: the Trekking Card, for 10 euros per day, for trails that require a fee, the Via dell’Amore, buses in the villages, and restrooms at the station; and the Treno MS Card, priced at 22 euros per day, which adds unlimited regional train rides between Levanto and La Spezia. It’s worth it if you take at least four or five trains in a day or if you want to hike the Via dell’Amore. Here you’ll find official prices, validation instructions, refund policies, and a calculator to help you determine if it’s right for you.

  • Trekking Card: 10 euros per day, 15 on peak days
  • MS Card Train: 1 day—22, 29.50, or 35 euros, depending on Zone A, B, or C (March 14–November 1, 2026)
  • From November 2 through December 31: Treno Card at a flat rate of 17.30 euros
  • Verification: Not required; just write your first and last name and bring a form of identification
  • Via dell’Amore: included in both cards; reservations are required
  • Please note: The Monterosso–Vernazza–Corniglia Blue-Green Trail will be closed starting September 10, 2026

The Two Cards: What They Include

Steps along the Blue Trail between Monterosso and Vernazza

Both cards are based on the same system. The Trekking Card gives you access to the paid trails, namely the Sentiero Verde Azzurro between Monterosso, Vernazza, and Corniglia, and the Via dell’Amore between Riomaggiore and Manarola. Plus: the Park’s buses within the villages, restroom use at the stations in the five villages (1 euro without the card), the Park’s Wi-Fi, guided tours of the Walking Park from May through October, free admission to the CAMeC in La Spezia, and reduced-price admission to the Civic Museums.

The Treno MS Card includes unlimited second-class travel on regional and fast regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia (as far as La Spezia Migliarina). It is not valid on Intercity or Frecciabianca trains. The cards are valid until midnight on the last day: if you buy it at 3:00 p.m., the day is already halfway over.

Prices for 2026 (accessed October 10, 2026)

The Treno Card follows Trenitalia’s traffic categories: A (low), B (medium), and C (high). The calendar of days is published as a PDF by Trenitalia and the Park: be sure to check it before purchasing.

From November 2 to December 31, 2026, the Treno Card has a single price: 17.30 euros for one adult for one day, 29 for two, and 34 for three.

The Trekking Card has two price tiers: regular and peak. Adults: 10 or 15 euros for one day, 17 or 26.70 for two days, 23.50 or 37.50 for three days; youth 7 or 10 euros, seniors over 70 8.50 or 12.50, families 27.10 or 40.20 per day. In 2026, peak days are Easter (April 3–6), April 25–26, May 1, all weekends in May including the 14th and 15th, June 1–2, the weekends of June 6–7 and 13–14, and those from September 12 to 27. There are no peak days in July and August. Children under 4 ride for free if accompanied by an adult with a card.

Is it worth it? Calculating with individual tickets

A single ticket at the Cinque Terre fare costs 5, 8, or 10 euros in zones A, B, and C, and is valid for a single trip. Here’s when the Treno Card saves you money:

  • Tier A: 22-euro pass; four rides cost 20 euros, five cost 25. It’s worth it starting at five trains, or four if you also take the Via dell’Amore.
  • Category B: single-ride ticket, 29.50 euros; four rides cost 32 euros. It’s a good deal if you take four trains.
  • Category C: 35-euro pass; four rides cost 40 euros. It’s worth it if you take four trains.

A typical example: You arrive in La Spezia, take the train to Riomaggiore, walk along the Via dell’Amore to Manarola, then take the train to Vernazza, the train to Monterosso, and return to La Spezia. That’s four trains plus the Via dell’Amore: with individual tickets in fare zone B, you’ll spend 32 euros, plus a 10-euro Trekking Card for the Via dell’Amore; with the Treno Card, it’s 29.50 euros total.

You don’t need the card if you’re visiting just one or two villages and returning, or if you’re dining out: after 7:30 p.m., the ticket always costs 5 euros. If you’re staying in Levanto or La Spezia and are coming from out of town, remember that the card only covers the Levanto–La Spezia route. Check the Cinque Terre trains page for schedules and tickets.

Where to Buy It and How to Use It

Cinque Terre Train Along the Coast

You can buy it online on the official card website or through the Park’s app, at the Park’s Infopoints at stations from La Spezia to Levanto, and the Treno Card is also available on the Trenitalia website and app, at ticket windows, and at self-service ticket machines. During peak season, lines at the Infopoints are long: buy online. Only those who purchase on the Park’s website can change the date—once—at least 24 hours in advance and within the same price bracket.

There are two versions circulating regarding validation: “it must be validated on the first train” and “it doesn’t need to be validated.” The park’s regulations take precedence: the card displays the date and a QR code, so it does not need to be validated at Trenitalia ticket machines. However, you must write your first and last name on it before using it; otherwise, it is not valid. This also applies to the digital version on your smartphone—you don’t need to print it out. If you purchased it from Trenitalia, follow the instructions printed on the card. Single-use paper tickets, on the other hand, must always be validated before boarding.

The card is personal, non-transferable, and non-refundable. Show it along with a form of ID during inspections: if it’s invalid, Trenitalia will fine you on the train, and on the trails, the Park will charge you double the price of an adult day pass.

Closed trails, weather alerts, and refunds

Vernazza and its harbor as seen from the trail

As of September 10, 2026, the Sentiero Verde Azzurro trail between Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso is closed for geological inspections, and as of October 10, there is no reopening date. For now, the card grants access to the Via dell’Amore, buses, restrooms, and—with the Train version—trains. Before purchasing the Trekking Card, check the status on the Cinque Terre trails page.

  • Orange or red alert: Passes are not being sold, and the trails are closed. Anyone who has already purchased a pass can request a refund.
  • Train Strike: Refund for the Treno Card if You Were Unable to Travel.
  • All paid trails are closed at the same time (Verde Azzurro and Via dell’Amore): refund for the Trekking Card.
  • Rain without a warning, overcrowding, landslides: the park may close a trail, but the card is not refundable.
  • 2- or 3-day passes: No refunds if you’ve already used them, even partially.

For paper cards, you must request a refund using the form on the Park’s website within 30 days of the card’s date of issue.

Via dell’Amore: No extra admission fee, but reservations are required

Via dell'Amore toward Manarola

In 2026, the Via dell’Amore is included in both the Trekking Card and the Treno Card at no additional cost: the old Card Plus is no longer available. You cannot enter without a card. However, you must reserve a time slot—either at the time of purchase or afterward—using the voucher code on the card website. The trail runs only from Riomaggiore to Manarola: open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through October 24, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting October 26. See the Via dell’Amore guides for full details; for an overview of the area, see the Cinque Terre section.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to validate the Cinque Terre Card?

No. According to the park regulations, the card has a date and a QR code and does not need to be stamped. You must write your first and last name on it and bring a form of identification.

Is the Via dell’Amore included in the card?

Yes, on both cards, at no extra charge. A time slot reservation is required.

Is the Treno Card or single-ride tickets a better deal?

With four trains in a day, the pass is a good deal for Zones B and C; for Zone A, you need five trains, or four plus the Via dell’Amore. For one or two villages, single-ride tickets are sufficient.

Yes, if there is an orange or red alert; for the Treno Card, even in the event of a strike. If it’s raining but there’s no alert, no.

Do I need a pass for the Levanto–Monterosso trail?

Generally speaking, no: the card is required for the Sentiero Verde Azzurro and the Via dell’Amore. Check the trail conditions on the park’s website before you go.
