In the valley the nights are usually cooler than by the sea and the gap between day and night is wider. For the weather on the coast, see the weather in Imperia.

Monthly averages for Imperia (air temperatures 1991–2020). Source: climieviaggi.it. For Dolcedo, at about 75 m above sea level, the temperatures are an estimate: they are the Imperia figures, on the coast about 8 km away, with 0.6 °C less for every 100 m of altitude; the rainy days are those of Imperia. Treat them as a guide: in the valleys nights are usually cooler and the gap between day and night wider.
Dolcedo lies on the Via Marenca, with waymarked mule tracks among olive trees and terraces. The longer outings, such as Monte Faudo (1,149 m) or the loop towards the Passo di Vena, climb a long way: set off only when the forecast is stable and bring water and hiking shoes. In summer check the local orders, because in dry heat the municipality can ban access to the woods because of the wildfire risk. The Lecchiore pools are natural pools in the stream, with no facilities or lifeguards: after rain the stream can swell and the rocks are slippery, so don’t swim. Never cross any of the stone bridges that are fenced off.
On rainy days you can stroll under the loggia in piazza Doria, with its old marble measures for oil and wine, and visit the Baroque church of San Tommaso Apostolo, although opening times are not guaranteed: ask in the village. Two Michelin Guide restaurants are in old mills on the Prino, and it’s best to book. To learn more about the trade that made the valley’s fortune, read the feature on olive oil and mills in Dolcedo.
In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before driving up the valley or setting off on a hike.
The best months run from spring to autumn. On the first Sunday of September the paper hot-air balloons are usually launched at Bellissimi (check the programme with the municipality), and 21 December is the feast of the patron saint, San Tommaso. If you want the sea, the nearest is at Imperia and San Lorenzo al Mare, about ten kilometres away.
