The beaches of Bocca di Magra are small, close to the village and less crowded than those of the Cinque Terre. This page sets out what we know: the two village beaches, Fiumaretta, and the two points of the Montemarcello headland, Punta Bianca and Punta Corvo, whose access has suffered closures and must be checked before you go.

The beaches of Bocca di Magra

From the waterfront, two beaches are a few minutes’ walk away: one equipped and one free. They are small and the bottom changes: stretches of sand, pebbles and rocks, with a few coves near the harbour. One of them, with small pebbles, is described in a review as suitable for snorkelling. Names of beach clubs, prices and lengths are not confirmed, so we do not give them: ask on the spot or at your accommodation.

Practical tips

La spiaggia tra gli scogli e i pini a Bocca di Magra

Bring water shoes, as the bottom is uneven; arrive early in high season, because parking is scarce; do not expect a big beach, but a small, quiet one a few steps from the cafe and the pier.

Fiumaretta

Fiumaretta is another hamlet of Ameglia, a few minutes from Bocca di Magra. The beach here is longer, mostly sandy, with free stretches and beach clubs. It is the right choice for those who want more space and for families with small children. It is not the same as Bocca di Magra: the village and the marina are there, the long sand is here. In 2026 the Blue Flag in the province of La Spezia went to Framura, Bonassola, Levanto and Lerici; Ameglia is not on the list. If you see it cited on a website, the data is probably old.

Punta Bianca and Punta Corvo: status of access

Il promontorio di Montemarcello sopra la piana del Magra

These are the two points of the Montemarcello headland, inside the Montemarcello-Magra-Vara Regional Natural Park. They have a bigger reputation than the village beaches but can only be reached by steep paths, and recent years have been marked by landslides and closures. Many tourist sites do not say so. So, whatever you read, check the order of the Comune di Ameglia before you go on the municipality’s official website.

Punta Corvo

A small beach of pebbles and dark sand below Montemarcello, with a path (no. 436) of over 700 steps, about 30-40 minutes according to tourist sources. In April 2023 the mayor closed beach and stairway by order because of falling-rock risk found in a geological survey. The municipality has a safety project awaiting approval from the Region and other bodies. The 2026 status is not confirmed. Some sites still describe the seasonal boat link from Bocca di Magra and Fiumaretta, but according to Wikipedia sea and path connections are interrupted by landslides: do not count on a service.

Punta Bianca

These are the white cliffs above the sea, also visible from the Park. The path was closed after the landslide of November 2023 that partly damaged the stairway. According to Montagna.tv, the municipality of Ameglia carried out extraordinary works (about 33,000 euros), restored the stairway and lifted the order. This is not confirmed by an official act for 2026; for Punta Chiodo, further on, the path was still reported closed. Do not confuse it with the Sicilian Punta Bianca, a military zone that often shows up in search results.

How to check whether an access is open

  • Look on the Comune di Ameglia website for orders and notices under the official notice board and news.
  • If you are in the area, stop at the Park visitor centre in Montemarcello (opening times not confirmed).
  • If you find a gate, chain or prohibition sign, do not pass: the closures concern falling-rock risk.
  • Do not rely on hikers’ tracks or reviews from past years.

Where to go if the trails are closed

La foce del Magra al tramonto

Stay on the two village beaches or Fiumaretta, or move the day to Lerici and Tellaro. A beach with a Blue Flag in 2026 is at Lerici. By boat, from the marina of Bocca di Magra, you can see the coast from the sea, but there is no scheduled service: the nearest boats leave from Lerici. For a different day, Sarzana and La Spezia are close.
