Sea, cycle path and mountain biking
The sea in front of the town is sheltered by breakwaters and is usually calm: the beach and the seafront are described in the guide to San Bartolomeo al Mare. The cycle path on the former railway is flat but has little shade: in summer choose early morning or late afternoon and bring water, and after a thunderstorm check the surface before setting off. The mountain-bike routes marked out by the municipality climb towards the Pizzo d’Evigno and can be ridden all year, but in the rain the unpaved sections get slippery: the Chicken Line descent needs care.

When to go to San Bartolomeo al Mare
For the sea, go from June to September. The town does not have a Blue Flag for 2026, but its neighbours Diano Marina and Andora do, and both are within easy cycling distance. For the cycle path and the hamlets among the olive trees, spring and autumn are ideal. Events include the Rovere d’Oro festival in July, the patron saint’s feast on 24 August, the Sagra di San Matteo in September and, in autumn, the Castagnata (Sunday 18 October in 2026).
