Just above the old village stands Villa Mariani: once the home of the 19th-century painter Pompeo Mariani, it now houses the foundation dedicated to him.
Built as a cottage designed by the architect Charles Garnier, the villa (with its beautiful park) was later enlarged by Mariani, who also added the Specola, the large studio-museum that can still be visited today. In the park you can still see one of the olive trees that Claude Monet portrayed in his Bordighera paintings.
The guided tours, held every week, let you discover the studio exactly as the painter left it, with his working tools and his works.
Behind Bordighera Alta, hidden by vegetation and old walls, stands Villa Mariani, seat of the Pompeo Mariani foundation.
Pompeo Mariani was a well-known 19th-century painter and a friend of some of the greatest Impressionists in history. He lived in this very villa.
On the property you can still see La Specola, his studio, where the artist created his masterpieces.
Very interesting guided tours are held every week.
In the villa’s park you can still see one of the olive trees portrayed by Claude Monet in one of his paintings of Bordighera.
