Triora's climate month by month

Triora is a mountain village at the foot of Monte Saccarello, the highest peak in Liguria, about 32 km by road from the sea at Arma di Taggia. There are no official averages for Triora: the table starts from the Sanremo figures and takes off about 5 °C for the altitude. Evenings are cool even in summer, so always pack a sweater. For the weather on the coast, see the Sanremo weather page.

Monthly averages for Sanremo (air temperatures 2004–2020). Source: climieviaggi.it. For Triora, at about 780 m above sea level, the temperatures are an estimate: they are the Sanremo figures, on the coast about 25 km away, with 0.6 °C less for every 100 m of altitude; the rainy days are those of Sanremo. Treat them as a guide: in the valleys nights are usually cooler and the gap between day and night wider.

Trails and mountains

Triora is part of the Alpi Liguri Regional Nature Park and is the only Ligurian member of the Mountaineering Villages network. The climb to Monte Saccarello (2,201 m) takes about 7 hours with 1,420 m of ascent: start early and only with a settled forecast, because mountain weather changes quickly. In May and June the rhododendrons flower on the Saccarello. In winter a cross-country ski trail is groomed at Colle Melosa.

If it rains in Triora

On rainy days there is the Regional Ethnographic and Witchcraft Museum, on three floors of the old town hall, with the records of the 1587–1589 trial: it opens every afternoon and also in the morning at weekends and in summer, but check the times on the museum’s website. The Collegiate Church of Nostra Signora Assunta holds the “Baptism of Christ” by Taddeo di Bartolo (1397). The story of the trial is told in our guide to the witches of Triora.

When to go to Triora

The best months run from spring to autumn. In summer Triora is cooler than the coast, and in August there is Strigora, with a medieval market and re-enactments (in 2026 it was held on 23 August); every 31 October the village celebrates Halloween. In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL: check them on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before driving up the valley or setting off on a hike.
