Boats and trails in bad weather
The Servizio Marittimo del Tigullio boats link Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Portofino and San Fruttuoso all year round, with seasonal timetables and depending on the weather; the Golfo Paradiso boats leave from Genoa, Nervi, Recco and Camogli, from March to autumn. When the sea is heavy, sailings may be suspended, and San Fruttuoso can only be reached on foot or by sea: before setting off on the trail to San Fruttuoso, check the weather and the times for the return. On the headland, the Via dei Tubi and the Passo del Bacio trail are banned by ordinances of the Comune di Camogli (municipality of Camogli).
In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian) before setting off on hikes or boat trips.
When to go to Portofino
For the sea, go from June to September; July and August are the busiest months. For the trails of the Portofino Park and to see the village with fewer crowds, choose April, May, September or October. At the end of April there’s the Festa di San Giorgio (Feast of St George).
