Rocchetta Nervina is a medieval village on the slopes of Monte Terca, about 13 km from the coast at Ventimiglia. There are no official averages for the village: the table starts from the Sanremo figures and takes off about 1 °C for the altitude. Natural pools, canyon and rain

The trail reaches Ponte Cin in about 50 minutes; further upstream is the Barbaira canyon, popular with canyoners from all over Europe. After heavy rain or during a weather alert, stay away from the stream and the canyon. Around mid-August the Oggia is almost dry, while the Barbaira has more water. On summer weekends the car park fills up early.

If it rains in Rocchetta Nervina

When it rains you can visit the E Dubarìe museum, by the stream in a medieval building that was once a tannery, with sections on tanning, the mill and the village’s water system: check the opening times on its website. The 15th-century Oratory of the Santissima Annunziata holds two 17th-century paintings. A few kilometres away is Dolceacqua, with the Doria castle.

When to go to Rocchetta Nervina

For the pools, choose summer; for trails such as the Monte Terca loop, spring and autumn. In summer the Pro Loco organises food evenings, such as the mid-August Raviolata di Ferragosto; the patron saint, Santo Stefano, is celebrated on 26 December.
