Monterosso has two public pay car parks: Fegina, by the sea in the newer part of town, and Loreto, at the entrance to the old village. In 2026 both cost €3 an hour and €30 for 24 hours, and in summer they fill up early. The old village is closed to traffic and you cannot drive from one side of town to the other, so pick your car park before you head down. For a day trip it is often easier to leave the car in Levanto or La Spezia and arrive by train.

Fegina or Loreto: which car park?

Statue and tower on the Monterosso al Mare headland

Fegina is the newer part of town, with the train station and the longest beaches; the old village lies beyond the Torre Aurora headland. There is one public car park on each side.

Fegina car park

  • Spaces: 270, including 5 for disabled drivers
  • Location: a short walk from the Fegina beaches and the station
  • Bonus: show your parking ticket and the public toilets are free
  • Best for: a beach day, catching the train, staying in Fegina

The largest and the most convenient for the sea; the old village is about ten minutes’ walk along the seafront. Thanks to the night rate it is also the cheapest if you stay overnight.

Loreto car park

  • Spaces: 160, including 3 for disabled drivers
  • Location: Loreto, above the historic centre
  • Best for: staying in the old village or sightseeing

From here you walk down the lanes to the church of San Giovanni Battista and the small harbour. The rate is the same day and night, so for longer stays buy the 24-hour ticket.

Behind Fegina there is also the Retro Park, reserved for holders of a local police permit: it is not for visitors.

Parking rates in 2026

The rates were approved by the town council on 20 November 2025 and apply from 26 March to 1 November 2026. Many websites still quote €2.50 an hour: those are old prices.

Rate Fegina Loreto
Per hour, 8am–10pm €3 €3
Per hour, 10pm–8am €0.50 €3
24 consecutive hours €30 €30
Days 3 to 7 €12 per 24 hours €12 per 24 hours
From day 8 €6 per 24 hours €6 per 24 hours

Doing the maths: the 24-hour ticket pays off once you stay more than ten daytime hours, and a full week costs €120. Winter rates from 2 November had not been published when we wrote this guide: check the town’s official parking page, which also lists the operator’s contacts and how to request a refund.

The road in and the car-free centre

Leave the A12 motorway at Carrodano–Levanto, head towards Levanto and climb to the Colla di Gritta pass, where the provincial road drops down to Monterosso. The road is narrow and winding.

Lower down it splits: one branch goes to Fegina, the other runs past Soviore to Loreto. The old village is closed to traffic and you cannot drive through town, so if you take the wrong branch you have to drive back up. Staying in the historic centre? Ask your host before arrival where to park and how to bring your luggage.

When the car parks fill up

Crowded beach at Monterosso al Mare

From June to September, at weekends and on Italian public holidays, spaces run out by mid-morning: arrive at midday and you will often find the “full” sign and have to turn back.

  • Arrive early: before 9am in high season; on sunny days Fegina fills first. Check the Monterosso weather.
  • Have a plan B: Levanto is a few minutes away by train.

Motorhomes and motorbikes

The town’s price list has no motorhome rates, and the road is not suited to large vehicles. Above the village, at Il Poggio, there is a small private stopover with a few serviced pitches: book ahead and ask the operator about facilities, prices and links to the village. Otherwise stop in Levanto or La Spezia and continue by train. The town publishes no specific rules for motorbikes: ask the car park staff.

The alternative: Levanto or La Spezia plus the train

Cinque Terre train along the coast

For a day trip this is the simplest plan. From 14 March to 1 November 2026 regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia run on the Cinque Terre fare: €5 to €10 per journey depending on distance, or included in the Cinque Terre Train Card. The Cinque Terre Express adds 46 extra trains a day. Timetables and tips are in our guide to the Cinque Terre train timetable.

  • From Levanto: a few minutes by train; pay car parks near the seafront and the station, restricted traffic zone in the centre.
  • From La Spezia: under half an hour; handy from the A15 or Tuscany. Park near the central station and stay out of the ZTL.

Monterosso station is in Fegina, a stone’s throw from the Monterosso beaches. In town you walk everywhere; for Soviore there are ATC buses, which accept the Cinque Terre Card. Staying several days? Book a place with parking: areas and properties are in our guide on where to stay in Monterosso.
