Rain, heat and trails

From the station you climb up to the village by the Lardarina, 377 steps: in the heat of July and August it’s best to climb early in the morning or take the Park bus. Corniglia has no landing stage for the boats, so a rough sea changes nothing about getting there: you come by train.

In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian). During an alert, the Cinque Terre municipalities can close the trails by ordinance, and the Via dell’Amore between Riomaggiore and Manarola closes even with a yellow alert. The status of the routes is on the Cinque Terre National Park website. The Manarola–Corniglia stretch of the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) is closed because of landslides, and on 10 September 2026 the Park also closed the stretch between Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso for geological checks.

When to go to Corniglia

For the trails and the views, choose April, May, June, September or October. The sea is hard to reach here: for a swim, it’s best to take the train to Monterosso or Vernazza.
