Vernazza has mild winters and hot, humid summers, with rain concentrated between October and January. Bad weather is remembered here: on 25 October 2011 a cloudburst dropped about 542 mm of rain in a few hours, a third of a year’s average, and the village was buried in mud and debris. Trails, sea and boats

In Liguria, alerts for rain and thunderstorms are issued by ARPAL, with three levels: yellow, orange and red alerts. Check the level on the official Allerta Liguria website (in Italian). During an alert, the Cinque Terre municipalities can close the trails by ordinance, and the Via dell’Amore between Riomaggiore and Manarola closes even with a yellow alert. The stretch of the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) between Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso was closed by the Park on 10 September 2026 for geological checks: find out whether it has reopened. When to go to Vernazza

Vernazza is crowded from May to September. For the sea, choose June or September, when the water is already warm and there are slightly fewer people; for the trails, April, May and October. In winter the village is quiet and mild.
