If you arrive by train or want the sea on your doorstep, choose the centre between the station and the Lungomare Argentina<\/strong>. Where to stay in Bordighera: the areas<\/h2>\n

Centre and station<\/h3>\n

The station is in the heart of town, a few steps from the sea, on the Genoa\u2013Ventimiglia line: Sanremo is about ten minutes by train, Ventimiglia five to ten, and from there you continue into France. Around it are the shopping streets, the covered market and restaurants, and the beach is a few minutes’ walk away. It is the most practical area without a car or for day trips. The downside is traffic and train noise in rooms facing the street: ask for a room at the back or on the sea side.<\/p>\n

Lungomare Argentina and the Capo<\/h3>\n
\"Lungomare<\/figure>\n

The Lungomare Argentina<\/a> is a pedestrian promenade of over two kilometres between the Capo and Rattaconigli beach, lined with palms, pines and beach clubs. Staying here means walking to the beach without the car and strolling at sunset. Towards the Capo, the rocks of Sant’Ampelio are perfect for snorkelling. Sea-view rooms go first and summer prices rise: book early. It also works well for families, as no cars use the promenade.<\/p>\n

Bordighera Alta<\/h3>\n

The medieval village on the Capo hill, enclosed by walls, is the most atmospheric area: alleys, arches, the square of Santa Maria Maddalena church and, in the evening, restaurant tables in the small squares. Here you mostly find holiday rentals in old houses, often with stairs and no lift. Since 2022 Bordighera Alta has been a restricted traffic zone 24 hours a day, all year: you can only drive in with a permit, and the blue-line parking around the village is paid all year until 11 pm. Before booking, ask where to leave the car.<\/p>\n

Via Romana and the villas<\/h3>\n

Via Romana is the street of 19th-century villas and hotels built by the English, with the Bicknell Museum and large gardens. It is the quietest and most elegant part of Bordighera: from the stretch near the centre, the sea and station are a few minutes’ walk away; from the villas further west, allow a little more. You will find historic hotels, residences with gardens and apartments in period buildings. Ideal for peace, long stays and, in winter, the mild climate that drew Northern European travellers for a century.<\/p>\n

Arziglia and the hills<\/h3>\n

East of the Capo, past the harbour, the Arziglia is more residential, with a small free beach and a few large seafront hotels: handy if you travel by car. In the hills behind town, along Via dei Colli and towards Sasso, there are holiday homes and villas with gardens, olive trees and sea views. These are the quietest areas, but a car is almost essential: town buses 10 and 11 run on weekdays only. Check that the property has parking and how steep the road is.<\/p>\n
