There is no promenade and almost none can be reached by car: you get there from the station, along the Via del Mare walkway or on the cycle path in the old railway tunnels. The reward is clear water and fewer people than in the nearby Cinque Terre. Here are the six beaches from east to west, how to reach them and which to choose.

Beaches: Porto Pidocchio, the harbour, Torsei, Vallà, Arena, Fornaci

Type: mostly pebbles and rocks; Vallà is a small sandy inlet

Blue Flag 2026: yes, for Vallà–Apicchi and Fornaci

From the station: Torsei in a few minutes, Vallà and Arena via the Via del Mare

By car: only Fornaci, plus a few spaces at the harbour and Torsei

Facilities: few; Fornaci is the best equipped, elsewhere bring everything

How to reach the beaches of Framura

The key is the station, which sits low in Anzo, right above the sea. From here you have three options. The underpass takes you straight to Torsei and to the start of the Via del Mare, a cliff walkway opened in 2016 that reaches Vallà and Arena in less than a kilometre. The link to the cycle path takes you east to the harbour, reached by stairs or a lift, and on to Porto Pidocchio. Fornaci, at the western end, is the only beach properly served by a road.

If you drive, parking near the sea is very limited and fills up early in August. The train is almost always the better choice: Deiva Marina, Bonassola and Levanto stations are one or two stops away.

Framura beaches from east to west

Porto Pidocchio

The easternmost cove, towards Bonassola, just outside the Cinque Terre National Park. A small stony beach at the end of a narrow inlet between high dark rocks, with very clear water. Above it stand the Case Rosse, the housing complex designed by Vico Magistretti in the late 1960s. You can only reach it on foot or by bike from the cycle path. There is no parking, bar or facilities, and erosion has shrunk the beach in recent years: FAI, the Italian heritage trust, has listed it several times among its “Luoghi del Cuore” to call for its protection. Go early, space is tight.

The harbour

Anzo’s porticciolo is a rocky inlet sheltered by the Ciamia rock, with fishing boats pulled up on the shore. You swim between boats and rocks. It is the handiest stop by bike, as stairs and a lift connect it with the path. By car, drive to the end of the road, where a small car park sits before the tunnel. On the first Sunday of August it hosts the village festival, with a boat procession and fireworks.

Torsei

Torsei is the beach nearest the station, a few minutes from the underpass. It is small and pebbly, enclosed by the Furmigua and Agua rocks, with a kiosk for drinks. It is the practical choice if you arrive by train with little time, which is also why it is the busiest on summer weekends.

Vallà

Along the Via del Mare, Vallà is a little sandy inlet sheltered by breakwaters, free and without facilities. The calmer water makes it the best beach for children, though you reach it on foot along the walkway, which has no railings in places. Together with Apicchi it has the 2026 Blue Flag.

Arena

Arena is Framura’s widest bay, with colourful pebbles and a view up to the hamlets on the hills. It is free and unequipped. You can only walk there: along the Via del Mare or on a woodland path down from Anzo. Umbrella and sunbed hire is almost non-existent, so bring shade, water and food.

Fornaci

Fornaci is the westernmost beach, on the border with Deiva Marina, and the only truly easy one: you can drive there from Deiva or Framura, walk from Deiva Marina station or follow the Monte Serro trail. It has beach facilities and is the busiest. It holds the 2026 Blue Flag. Parking is limited here too.

Which beach to choose

With children: Vallà for the sand and sheltered water, or Fornaci for the facilities.

Arriving by train with little time: Torsei.

For peace and quiet: Arena, the largest, or Porto Pidocchio if you arrive early.

By bike: the harbour and Porto Pidocchio, along the cycle path.

By car: Fornaci.

In rough seas the Via del Mare closes and the coves become dangerous: check alerts on Allerta Liguria and bathing water quality on the ARPAL website. Rules for dogs change every season, so ask the town hall before you go. If you want a long beach with facilities, the cycle path takes you to Bonassola and Levanto in minutes.

Frequently asked questions about the beaches of Framura

Are Framura’s beaches sandy?

Almost all are pebbles and rocks.
